Wimbledon Doubles draw announced

Match Report

Roland Garros champions Esther Vergeer and Marjolein Buis will take on 2011 Wimbledon runners-up Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot in an all-Dutch women’s semifinal when this year’s Wimbledon Wheelchair Doubles Event, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, gets underway on Friday at The Championships in London.

Vergeer is aiming for her fourth successive double title at the third Grand Slam of the year and will be aiming to do it with her third different doubles partner, having previously won with two other fellow Dutchwomen, Korie Homan and Sharon Walraven.

Walraven partners Belgian Annick Sevenans this year and the second seeds will face British wild cards Lucy Shuker and Jordanne Whiley in the other semifinal. Shuker and Whiley were unable to get past the semifinals on their Wimbledon debut as a partnership in 2011, although Shuker was a finalist in 2009 and 2010.

Robin Ammerlaan and Ronald Vink of the Netherlands, the 2007 and 2008 men’s champions, will open their bid for a third Wimbledon double title together on Saturday against wild card entries Marc McCarroll and Gordon Reid of Great Britain, who make their Wimbledon debut as a partnership this year.

The other men’s semifinal will pitch reigning Doubles Masters champions Tom Egberink of the Netherlands and Michael Jeremiasz of France against the all-French partnership of Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer, the reigning US Open champions.
