ROLAND GARROS, FRANCE: Out on court 13 the current ATP World Number 77, Xavier Malisse, was playing and drawing a crowd but there was no sign of the traditional red clay associated with Roland Garros.
Malisse, photographed by IAE Beach Tennis, was instead on sand as he tried his hand at the fast growing sport that is beach tennis. The Belgian star is not the first player to stray from their normal brand of tennis and joins the likes of Nadal, Murray and Hantuchova who have enjoyed time on the sand.
More recently, Dustin Brown and Martin Fischer teamed up to enter the beach tennis tournament held in Munich alongside the ATP Tour's own tournament.
The showcasing of this great sport will be taking place onsite at Roland Garros throughout the entire Championships to promote beach tennis to all. As well as the participation of professional tennis players, fans of all ages are encouraged to take to the sandy courts and experience the thrills of the sport for themselves.
Members of the media are also being actively encouraged to get involved.
The numbers have so far been exceptional with almost 1200 participants having picked up a paddle racket and engaged in beach tennis action over the first ten days starting during the qualifying week and first week of the main event.
It's not too late to have a go yourself, so, if you're attending Roland Garros, do stop by and check out the beach tennis exhibition and have a go for yourself. Who knows, you could soon be playing on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour!
