Nigeria and Morocco both secured comfortable 3-0 victories in their men’s round-robin group ties on the second day of play at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup Pre-qualification Event for Africa in Nairobi, Kenya.
In men’s Group 1 Nigeria proved far too strong for Egypt as Yusuf Wasiu defeated Farouk Ahmed 60 60 and Alex Adewale beat Aly Mahamed 60 60 in the two singles rubber, before Adewale and Wasiu eased past their respective singles opponents to win the doubles rubber 60 60 and wrap up the tie without dropping a game.
In Group 2 Morocco’s contest against Gambia began with Lhaj Boukartacha defeating Sanyang Ousman 62 61. Jeddi went on to give Morocco and unassailable lead after beating Nyang Barra 61 61.
Boukartacha partnered Bakhtali Mohamed to ease to a 61 60 victory over Barra and Ousman in the doubles rubber as Morocco topped their round-robin group.
Thursday’s third day of play in Nairobi will see the completion of the round-robin phase of the competition as host nation Kenya take on Nigeria to decide which nation finished top of Group 1.
The women’s event will also resume with South Africa, who have already recorded victory over Kenya, taking on Zimbabwe.
