Top seeds Sri Lanka and Thailand take poll position into Saturday’s third set of round-robin ties at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup Pre-qualification even for Asia/Oceania t in India.
With the host nation having a rest day in the men’s event, Sri Lanka played the first of their two round-robin ties and recorded a 3-0 win over Malaysia.
Dissanayake Gamini and Upali Rajakaruna both won their singles rubbers by the same scoreline, Gamini defeating King Hong Kee 64 61 and Rajakaruna overcoming Abu Samah Borhan 64 61, before Gamini and Rajakaruna concluded the tie by beating Ariffahami Zaquan Ariffin and Kee 61 60 in the doubles.
Sri Lanka play India on Saturday.
In the women’s event Chusri Inthanin played her first singles rubber of the week for Thailand and dominated her match against Australia’s Luba Josevski to win 60 60.
Sakhorn Khanthasit subsequently secured her second victory in successive days, defeating Janel Manns 61 60.
Sarah Calati came in to partner Manns as Australia attempted to take something from the doubles rubber, but Inthanin and Ratana Techamaneewat paired up with great effect for the second day in succession to win the doubles 60 61 in exactly an hour.
The result leaves Thailand assured of topping the round-robin group, while Australia and Sri Lanka will now meet on Saturday to decide which nation will play Thailand on Sunday in the final of the qualification event.
