Mexico celebrated a home champion at the inaugural Abierto Juvenil Mexicano when Marcela Zacarias from San Luis Potosi won the doubles title with her Brazilian partner Laura Pigossi.

Zacarias and Pigossi defeated the accomplished duo of Ukrainian Ganna Poznikhirenko and Russian Elizaveta Kulichkova 7-5 6-2 in front of an enthusiastic crowd. "I am pleased to be the first Mexican to win this ITF Grade A tournament,” said Zacarias. "The key was to play with intensity the whole match and not give chance to our opponents. I thank the crowd for supporting us the whole way through.”

In the singles, third seed Federico Ferreira Silva (POR) will take on Italy’s Stefano Napolitano, seeded ten, in the boys’ final on Sunday, while Kulichkova (seeded three) and Vavara Flink (seeded five) will play an all-Russian girls’ final.

Silva ended the title hopes of Bar Tzuf Botzer by beating the Israeli 6-5 7-5 in the semi-finals, while Napolitano had to overcome a determined challenge from Juan Ignacio Galarza, eventually beating the Argentinean 6-4 0-6 6-4 in a compelling match.

Kulichova, meanwhile, upset the tournament’s Poznikhirenko in the girls’ singles semi-finals with a 7-6(5) 6-4 victory to set up her title clash with compatriot Flink. Flink beat fourth seed Kyle McPhillips (USA) 6-3 6-4 to earn herself a shot at the trophy.

The boys’ singles final will begin at 11am local time, with the girls’ final to follow not before 12.30 on Sunday.
