Tennis Europe confirm hosts for 2012-14 European Beach Tennis Championships

In a statement released on November 17th 2011 Tennis Europe confirmed the host nations for the next three European Beach Tennis Championships.

Their announcement concerning these Championships, one of the highlights of the ITF Beach Tennis Tour calendar, will see the event moving on to pastures new from 2012 starting with a visit to The Republic of San Marino before Great Britain assume the role of hosts for 2013-14.

The two nations will be looking to build on the success of previous years which has seen Italy, Turkey and Bulgaria host this prestigious event on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour.

At the time of writing, the venue for European Beach Tennis Championships V in The Republic of San Marino has been confirmed as the IBS Beach Planet resort with an announcement on the British venues still to come. Dates of the 2012-14 tournaments are also yet to be confirmed.

ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti said: “Tennis Europe’s decision to bring their premier event to two new countries is a positive step in the development of the sport in Europe. The European Beach Tennis Championships have always been a major highlight for players, and we are sure they will appreciate the opportunity to showcase their talents in San Marino and Great Britain.”

Tennis Europe Chief Executive Officer Olli Maenpaa said: “San Marino already has a fine beach tennis tradition and is one of the best-performing nations in Europe. The discipline is comparatively new to Great Britain, but is one that has enormous potential in an island-nation with a rich tennis history. I am sure that both venues will serve as a further boost to the explosive growth of beach tennis in Europe.”

The European Beach Tennis Championships, organised by Tennis Europe, have formed part of the ITF Beach Tennis Tour since 2008 and has seen a steady growth in size and popularity with each passing year. The hosts of European Beach Tennis Championships IV, Bulgaria, saw 120 players from 19 nations competing in knock-out competition for the much sought after title.
