· Radio interviews are often done at the end of a press conference. Communications staff will usually tell you before you start if you have to do any radio interviews.
· Most interviews will only take one or two minutes. Answer each question as fully as you can but your answers don’t have to be very long if you can’t think of anything to say. It’s better to give a short answer than to say ‘um’ and ‘er’.
· Speak into the microphone and try not to move your head around too much because your voice will not record very well. The interviewer will tell you if you are not sure how close you should be to the microphone.
· Look at the interviewer when you are talking and smile when you can. It makes it easier for the interviewer to tell if you have finished or not and it makes your voice sound better because you will sound more open and friendly.
· Try not to say ‘um’ and ‘er’ too much. It’s worth practising with a friend, seeing how long you can talk without saying ‘um’ or ‘er’ or ‘you know’. It will help you when it comes to doing radio interviews.
· Don't rush. Take your time answering questions, even if you're nervous. If you talk too fast people listening won't be able to understand what you're saying.
