· Photographs will follow you throughout your career. Think twice before posing for something you may regret later. DO NOT feel bullied into having photos taken.
· Ask whom the photo is for. All photographers have publications and associations they work for. Check with the ITF if you aren't familiar with the photographer.
· Match points are important! If you get caught up in the moment, don't worry. Once you regain your composure try to look at the photographers, raise your arms and smile. Each one of you will have your own "signature jubilation" so do what comes natural.
· Trophy shots...you're excited, happy, not thinking about anything but that moment. Try to remember to look from left to right, pausing at the photographers as you look down the line. This MAY stop some of them yelling out, 'Here! Look here! No! Look here'. You're going to feel confused so take control and look from left to right.
· Endear yourself to the media, when you've had enough, ask them, "Did you get what you need?" They'll love you for this and try to make you look good.
· Do you ever think, "That photographer has 30,000 pictures of me, why does he/she need more?" Photographers are human too. Not all their pictures are in focus! Also, everyone is trying to get a great shot, not just a routine one.
· Building a relationship with photographers is good. If you don't feel like having a photo opportunity but you know the person asking for one, they might understand it's a bad time but you'll do it later. This is developing trust and that's important. They trust they'll get the shots they need and you trust them to distribute good shots of you. Fans follow players they have seen published. Go to an outer court and check out how many people are watching "unknown" matches.
· Ask for photos! You may be surprised at the photographers willing to give you CDs or prints for your personal use. These will be important to you later in life. Want a photo of you and your friend or family? Ask a photographer to take it, not for publication, just for you. Again, you may be surprised at the positive response.
· Relax. The most important thing is that you enjoy your match and play your best. Leave the action photos to the experts.
