Why the Media is Important

It’s simple really. The media tell millions of people all over the world about tennis and what a fantastic sport it is. Without the media no-one would hear about tennis on the radio or read about tennis in their newspapers and there would be no fans watching at home on television. Without all that media attention, sponsors wouldn’t get coverage of their products and tournaments wouldn’t be able to survive. There would be nobody paying prize-money or offering endorsements and so you wouldn’t be able to have a career as a tennis player.

Working with the Media to promote tennis

Because the media is such an important part of tennis, doing interviews and press conference is a very big part of every tennis player’s job. The more you co-operate with the media, the more famous you will become and the more companies will want to sponsor you, so it’s worth making the effort. It’s media’s job to tell people about tennis and the people who play it but they need your help to do that. The more you help the media, the more you are helping tennis and the more you are helping your career.

Introduction to Media Pages

In this section you will find pages which have helpful tips for working with newspapers and magazines; radio and photographers. Doing interviews and press conferences may seem scary at first but you will soon get used to it and will get more confident. If you are relaxed, friendly and enjoy what you are doing, that’s how you will come across to the media and therefore to the people watching at home, listening to you or reading about you in their newspapers.
