Peptide Hormones
Peptide hormones include a number of substances that cause the production of other hormones. Examples include HCG, HGH, ACTH and EPO.

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin). The effects of this drug are similar to increased levels of testosterone that are apparent with the use of anabolic steroids. It is used as an attempt to overcome testicular damage or as a masking agent. It is also perceived to increase muscle size and strength.

Effects of HCG
Breast development in men
Menstrual disorders in women

HGH (Human Growth Hormone).
Athletes use this to help build muscle size and increase strength. It increases growth until puberty.

Effects of HGH
Overgrowth of hands, feet and face (acromegaly)
Abnormal growth of internal organs such as the liverJoint disorders (arthropathies)
Cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure (hypertension)
Increased sweating
Increased oil gland production in the skin

ACTH (Adreno Cortico Trophin Hormone).
This may be used to repair damaged tissue and muscles.

Effects of ACTH
Sleeping problems (insomnia)
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Stomach ulcers
Poor healing of wounds
Loss of bone mass (osteoporosis)

EPO (ErythroPOietin). This hormone increases the amount of red blood cells in the blood. It may be used to attain better endurance.

Effects of EPO
Thickening of the blood that may result in
blood clots
High blood pressure
Convulsions
