The tournament is part of the prestigious year-end quartet of North American junior events that includes the Orange Bowl, Eddie Herr and the Yucatan Cup.

The first edition of the Copa Internacional Casablanca was played in 1977, and in 1998 it was promoted to Grade 1 status by the ITF. Renamed Abierto Juvenil Mexicano, it was added to the list of Grade A tournaments in 2004.  Since 2011 the tournament has been held at the Centro Deportivo Chapultepec, which boasts 11 outdoor and three indoor clay courts, and is located in one of the most exclusive areas of Mexico City. Its stadium, Rafael Osuna, named after Mexico’s most famous player, has played host to Mexican Davis Cup victories and has a capacity of 2,700 spectators.

The tournament has attracted a number of players who have gone on to enjoy great success in the game, including the likes of Roger Federer, Ivan Lendl, Goran Ivanisevic and Caroline Wozniacki. Last year, the Abierto Juvenil Mexicano hosted players from more than 40 countries.

The Camino Real, the tournament’s host four-star hotel, is a Mexico City architectural landmark housing more than 600 works of art and is conveniently located across the street from the Centro Deportivo Chapultepec.
