The boys’ ITF Sunshine Cup and girls’ Connolly Continental Cup are the International Team Competitions for players aged 18 & Under. The ITF took over the running of both events in 1997.

16 teams are selected to take part in these events, which were held at Crandon Park in Miami, venue for the prestigious Tennis Masters Series Miami event (currently known as the Nasdaq-100 Open). Both events last took place in 2001.

The Sunshine Cup, originally known as the Orange Bowl Junior Cup, was established in 1958 and played in Miami Beach. 13 nations took part and Brazil emerged as the first champions.

The USA have won a record 16 titles, followed by Spain with eight. France have been champions three times in the past four years.

John McEnroe led the USA to victory in 1975-76, while Yannick Noah, Boris Becker, Mats Wilander, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Gustavo Kuerten and Marcelo Rios are among a host of famous names to have taken part.

The Maureen Connolly Brinker Continental Players Cup, as it was known then, started in 1976. 12 teams took part, with the USA winning the first of their 11 titles to date.

Russia have been the most successful team in recent years, with three victories in the past five Finals. Anna Kournikova was only 14 when she led the Russians to their first success in 1995.

Former world No 1 Tracy Austin led the US to victory in 1977, while there have also been appearances by Hana Mandlikova, Steffi Graf, Lindsay Davenport and Zina Garrison.
