Top seeds stay on course at World Junior Tennis Finals
Top seeds Russia in the girls’ and France in the boys’ got their second wins under their belt on the red clay courts of TK Prostejov, on a day which saw temperatures drop after the heat wave and also a short interruption due to rain.

BOYS

Group A:
FRA-CHI 3-0
ESP-UZB 3-0

After the tentative start on Monday, top seed France displayed a solid performance today against the Chilean team. Both Enzo Py and Julien Delaplane, who had only played doubles yesterday, won their matches in straight sets.
Spain faced Uzbekistan in the other match of the group. Carlos Benito (ESP) had little difficulty to win his match, but his fellow countryman Albert Alcatraz was down 63 53 and 30-0, before turning the set around and subsequently winning the third set clearly.
The group is respecting the seeding logic as top seed France and Spain as 7th seed will play off tomorrow to determine which of the two teams makes it to the semi-finals.

Group B:
ARG-JPN 0-3
ISR-MEX 2-1

After having beaten 4th seed Argentina yesterday, the Mexican boys surprisingly lost their tie against Israel today. Or Ram got Israel in the lead, before Lucas Gomez (MEX) drew Mexico level. In the doubles Eyal Cohen and Igor Smelyanski dominated the Mexican pair of Jaime Galleguillos and Guillermo Nunez.
The only team unbeaten in the group after today is 6th seed Japan, who defeated Argentina in a tie that was already decided after the singles matches. Japan now has the best chances of reaching the semifinals, but will have to beat Mexico in tomorrow’s final group match.

Group C:
POR-USA 2-1
TPE-RSA 3-0

Chinese Taipei continued their winning streak today when defeating the South African boys. Matthew Rousseau (RSA) put up a good fight in his match against Chih-Chun Tang, taking the second set in the tie-break, but overall the boys from Chinese Taipei dominated the tie winning both the first singles and the doubles in straight sets.
Portugal put an end to the US dreams of defending their title in Prostejov. The Portuguese captain changed the nominations to yesterday's and put Rodolfo Pereira as second player against Joseph Di Giulio (USA). Di Giulio won his second singles match of the week, but had to go to three sets against the Portuguese. Federico Silva (POR) then levelled the tie in another three set battle against Mackenzie McDonald (USA). The Portuguese boys won the decisive doubles in straight sets and will now play against Chinese Taipei tomorrow for a place in the semi-finals.

Group D:
AUS-PER 2-1
RUS-CZE 1-1

Peru’s Nicholas Osterling got the South Americans in the lead in the tie against Australia. In the match of the two no.1 players Jay Andrijic defeated Jorge Panta, who seemed to be running out of steam at the end of the long match. Australia had the better doubles pair and secured their first victory at the World Junior Tennis Finals.

The longest ties of the day involved once more the Czech boys team. In two marathon singles matches, Russia got the lead thanks to Alexander Mozgoyoy’s better staimina against Daniel Filo (CZE). Marek Routa (CZE) then drew the host nation level with a win over Alexander Vasilenko to set up another decisive doubles match. The doubles was closely fought as it also went to the third set. At almost 18:00 the Czech doubles won their serve at 52 in the final set to win. They now have it in their hands to reach the semifinals with a win over Peru tomorrow.

GIRLS

Group A:
RUS-AUS 2-1
FRA-RSA 3-0

Top seeds Russia wasted no time in securing victory against Australia as Viktoriya Kan beat Stefani Stojic 63 61, and Yulia Putintseva dropped just one game as she sailed past Kassandra Dunser. The Russians looked to be sailing to a straight set victory in the doubles, however the Australians fought back from one set down to secure victory in the third rubber and a final result of 1-2 against the top seeds. The other tie in Group A saw France take on South Africa. This was a similar story to the first tie, with France dominating from the outset to take the tie 3-0 and maintain their 100% record.

Group B:
CHN-BRA 2-1
CZE-CAN 3-0

Third seeds China were forced to a deciding doubles today against Brazil. Beatriz Maia disposed of Jia-Lu Huang in straight sets to give Brazil a 1-0 lead over the third seeds. Zi-Yue Sun teamed up with Li where they sailed to a straight set victory over the Brazilians to secure victory in their second tie. Fifth seeds Czech Republic continued their winning streak today against Canada. An upset looked to be on the cards as Aneta Dvorakova went one set down to Canada’s Carol Zhao, however with the support of the home crowd Dvorakova clawed her way back to seal a 16 62 64 win. Petra Rohanova followed suit enjoying a convincing victory over Francoise Abanda, before Dvorakova and Gabriela Pantuckova teamed up for a win in the doubles. The Czech Republic will face third seeds China tomorrow in a tie that will decide the winners of Group B.

Group C:
JPN-UKR 2-1
CHI-NED 0-3

The Netherlands continued their winning run in Group C, confirming with a victory over Chile their ambition to tackle fourth seeds Ukraine for the top spot of the group. It was one-way traffic as the Netherlands brushed aside their opponents, dropping just five games in the three matches.
Japan’s Mami Adachi and Miho Kowase both enjoyed straight set victories over their opponents giving them an unassailable 2-0 lead in their tie against the Ukraine. Ukraine’s Diana Bogolii and Yuliya Lysa teamed up to take on Kowase and Ayaka Okuno in the doubles, where they sailed to a straight sets victory to make the final score 2-1 in Japan’s favour.

Group D:
USA-KOR 3-0
ARG-BUL 0-3

The USA made easy work of their second tie defeating Korea 3-0. Both Victoria Duval and Sachia Vickery enjoyed straight set victories over JiHee Choi and Su Jeong Jang respectively. Bulgaria wasted little time in sealing victory in their second tie, easing their way through the three matches without dropping a set.
