| Argentina, Bolivia and China win junior qualifiers |
The last Asia/Oceania qualifying event for the 2009 ITF junior team competitions was staged in Kuching, Malaysia last week, with sixteen girls team contesting four spots in the World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostejov. China defeated top seed Japan to win the event, with both teams qualifying for the World Finals alongside losing semifinalists Australia and Korea.
The South America qualifying event for Junior Davis Cup & Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas also took place last week in Quito, Ecuador. Ten boys’ and girls’ teams competed for three boys’ and two girls’ places at the finals in Mexico. Argentina won the girls’ event and will be joined in the finals by runner-up Peru. Bolivia won the boys’ event to qualify for the Finals and will be joined by runner-up Chile and third placed Argentina.
Qualification for the 2009 junior team finals has now been completed on all continents except Europe, where the European Summer Cups will serve as qualifying events. The finals of the boys’ Copa del Sol and girls’ Europa Cup, to be held on 3-5 July, will determine the remaining five boys’ and girls’ teams to qualify for Prostejov. The finals of the boys’ Borotra Cup and girls’ Helvetie Cup, which take place on 3-5 August, will determine the remaining six boys’ and girls’ teams to qualify for San Luis Potosi in September.
