20 Apr 2009 - Casablanca, Morocco - Isabelle Gemmel

African Team Qualifying completed in Casablanca

The African Qualifying event for the ITF Junior Team Competitions took place as final part of the African Junior Championships in Casablanca from 16 to 18 April 2009.

For the first time, the four best countries of each age category form the African Junior Championships played out the Qualifiers in a Round Robin Competition over three days. The event was staged on eight clay court of the Racing Universitaire Casablancais.

In the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas, Benin, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia competed for the 2 spots available at the Finals in San Luis Potosi, Mexico in September. Tunisia and Egypt qualified as first and second of their round robin group.

In the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa and Zimbabwe competed for the 1 spot available in Mexico. In an close contested event, host nation Morocco just got the edge ahead over South Africa and Egypt.

In the World Junior Tennis Competition for boys, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and South Africa competed for the 1 African spot available at the Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic in August. South Africa with the outstanding Wayne Montgomery qualified after beating host nation Morocco in the third set in the decicive doubles.

In the World Junior Tennis Competition for girls, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and South Africa competed for the 1 African spot available in Prostejov. South Africa also won the girls 14&under qualifying and will be the only African nation present in the Czech Republic in August.
