| Number one seed Yang crashes out of Dunlop Orange Bowl |
The biggest upset of the day came in the boys’ draw as Tsung-Hua Yang crashed out in the third round to American Alex Domijan. Domijan played some of the best tennis of his career as he fought back from one set down to over come Yang 36 64 75, who earlier this week confirmed his position as the No. 1 ranked junior in the world. Despite having a match point in the third set Yang was unable to take advantage and put an end to Domijan’s winning streak, which as a result has now taken him to a 14th win in a row on the ITF Junior Circuit.
Yang was not the only seed to crash out in the third round as eleventh seed Nikala Scholtz (RSA) suffered the same fate. Julien Obry of France caused the second upset of the day for the boys’ draw defeating Choltz in straight sets. It was one-way traffic as Obry out-played his opponent to a 62 62 victory to advance to the quarter-finals where he will face second seed Yuki Bhambri (IND). The other three seeds all enjoyed comfortable straight set wins over their opponents to confirm their places in the quarter-finals.
The big story in the girl’s event came when second seed Laura Robson (GBR) retired during her match against Beatrice Capra (USA). Robson had sustained an injury earlier in the week that then forced her to retire in her third-round match, consequently putting an end to her hopes of finishing the year as World No.1.
Robson was not the only seed to fall in the third round as Yana Buchina of Russia was also forced to retire after spraining her ankle. Wild card entrant Sloane Stephens (USA) now advances to the quarterfinals alongside fellow wild-card entrant and team-mate from the Junior Fed Cup, Christina Michale (USA).
All other seeds made it safely through to the quarter-finals which will get underway later today.
