Top seeds tumble in Milan
The top two seeds in the boys singles, Bernard Tomic (AUS) and Cesar Ramirez (MEX) tumbled out of the draw in dramatic style yesterday at the quarterfinal stage.

In another day affected by rain in Milan Tomic went down to Belgium’s David Goffin 62 60 whilst Ramirez suffered the humiliation of a double bagel at the hands of Argentina’s Guido Pella.

Brazil’s Henrique Cunha is the only seed to have made it through to the semifinals thanks to his victory over Italian wildcard Alessandro Gianessi 64 75. Cunha will now take on Goffin whilst Pella will face Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov who defeated Tennys Sandgren (USA) in his quarterfinal 76(3) 64.

There were also surprises in the girls draw where in form Elena Bogdan (ROU) succumbed to Germany’s Linda Berlinecke 62 62. The German will now face No.3 seed Bojana Jovanovski (SRB) who made it through to the semis, although not without a fight against Great Britain’s Laura Robson 76(4) 64.

In the bottom half of the draw Nastassja Burnett keeps hopes of a home victory alive by making it through to the last four with a win over Russia’s Valeriya Solovieva 62 62. The Italian will now face No.10 seed Simona Halep (ROU) after she saw off fourth seed Kurumi Nara 60 62.
