| Defending champion out of the hunt |
Defending champion Cindy Chala is out of the hunt for the title this year after falling to Romania’s Elena Bogdan in the quarterfinals. Chala lost the first set 36 but looked to be making a comeback when she squared the match at one set all 63. However the French girl was unable to maintain her form and quickly lost the third set 61.
Bogdan will now face Johanna Konta (AUS) in the semifinal after Konta saw off Russia’s Valeriya Solovieva in a hard fought match 76(3) 75.
Another Bogdan, Ana made it through to the semis with an impressive display against Italy’s Nastassya Burnett 61 61. Bogdan will face top seed Bojana Jovanovski from Serbia in the semifinal after Jovanovski made short work of her quarterfinal.
The Serb took out the last South American in the draw Aranxa Salut from Argentina with ease 61 62.
Whilst the girls draw is dominated by Europeans, the boys draw has a distinctly more South American feel with two Argentines and one Brazilian making in through to the semis.
Jose Pereira will have the weight of hope resting on his shoulders now after making it through to the semis with a win over Great Britain’s Niall Angus 75 75. Periera’s compatriot Rafael Camilo did not fair so well in his match against top seed Marcelo Arevalo, despite starting well he went down in three sets 26 62 61.
Next to take on the top seed will be Argentina’s Juan Vazquez Valenzuela who saw off Belgium’s David Goffin 64 60.
Fellow Argentine Ignacio Martire completes the semifinal line up after defeating another European, Cedrik Marcel Stebe from Germany 64 63.
