Two Brazilians through to the quarterfinals
Two Brazilians have successfully made it through to the quarterfinals of the 25th Gerdau Cup in Porto Alegre, Brazil this week.

Rafael Camilo and Jose Pereira kept home hopes alive with victories in the last 16. "Ze" Pereira, as he is know on the circuit took only 1 hour and 24 minutes to overcome his Argentine opponent Andrea Colarini 63 62. However the match was not as easy as it may have seemed according to Pereira; "The Argentines are tough, the fight really hard". Pereira will now take on Great Britain's Niall Angus who defeated Alexandre Folie from Belgium in a tough three setter 76(4) 26 63.

Rafael Camio is the second Brazilian through to the last eight and had to expend more energy than his compatriot to get past France's Guillaume Rufin. The Brazilian lost the first set 46 but managed to reverse the result in the following two sets 60 64. The match lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes but Camilo was prepared: "I went on to the court knowing that it would be a tough match and I was prepared to play three sets, that was the difference."

Camilo's next opponent will be top seed Rafael Arevalo from El Salvador, last week's Banana Bowl winner. Arevalo overcame Juan Carlos Spir from Colombia 76(2) 62.

The remaining two quarterfinals will be made up of Argentina's Juan Vazquez Valenzuela versus David Goffin from Belgium and German Cedrik Marcel Stebe against another Argentine Ignacio Stebe.

In the girls' draw Argentina's Aranza Salut is the only non European left in draw after defeating Romania's Alexandra Damaschin 46 61 75. However she will have a tough job to survive the next round as she will face top seed Bojana Javanovski (SRB) who came through her match against Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) with ease 62 62.

Defending champion Cindy Chala (FRA) remains on course for the title displaying another impressive performance, defeating Russian Nanuli Pipiya 60 62. She will face one of the Bogdans, both of who made it through to the quarters. Eleana depeated Peru's Bianca Botto 60 63.

Ana Bogdan will face Italy's Nastassja Burnett after both came through their matches against Alja Tomljanovic and Valeris Savinykh respectively.

Johanna Konta (AUS) and Valeriya Solovieva make up the final quarterfinal.
