Piro through to Quarterfinals but Pervak Defeated in Milan
The one major upset of the day was provided by Bojana Jovanovski, who defeated second seed Ksenia Pervak. Pervak’s early form had been consistent with two straight set victories, and whilst her third round match began in the same way, Jovanovski battled from a set down to prevail 3-6 7-6 6-4. The victory has earned her a quarterfinal tie against eighth seed Cindy Chala. More significantly it has removed yet another contender as Pivovarova moves closer to a final place. Pivovarova overcame sixteenth seed Moore 7-6 2-6 6-2 and will face sixth seed Irina Begu in the tie of the round.

Tamaryn Hendler, one of the younger contenders for the title has also proceeded to the quartfinals, defeating twelfth seed Rodionova in straight sets, 6-4 6-4. Hendler will face Klaudia Boczova. Boczova defeated another of the tournaments young sensations, Larcher de Brito, 6-1 7-5.

Elsewhere, ninth seed Mrdeza defeated seventh seed Kucova despite a terrible first set, 0-6 6-4 7-6 and will now meet Roxana Vaideanu.

In the boys singles, the only seeded player to fall came from the match between Stephane Piro and Henrique Cunha, with the second seeded Piro winning comfortably, 6-2 6-2. Piro as been consistently excellent on his preferred surface this year, with several semi-final and final appearances.

Meanwhile, third seed Kellen Damico defeated Patricio Alvarado 6-4 6-4 and Uladzimir Ignatik also won 6-3 6-4 against Thomas Schoorel. Rhyne Williams battled his way back from a set down to defeat Goran Rozic 5-7 6-2 6-0. His next opponent will be Italian Matteo Trevisan. As the last Italian in the draw, Trevisan carries the local support into the tie against Williams. The final quarterfinal pairing is an unseeded affair, with Daniel Lopez defeating Damian Hume 6-2 6-2, in order to face Gastao Elias.
