Day 3 at the Orange Bowl
Day 3 at the Orange Bowl saw the girls seeds progress en masse to the round of 16. Only one seed in action did not make it through, No.8 seed Dominice Ripoll from Germany going down in a tough three set battle 75 64 64 to Russia's Ksenia Pervak.

The USA is represented well in the girls draw with Americans making up five of the sixteen spots. Wildcards Melanie Oudin and Mallory Burdette made the most of their opportunities; Oudin took out Irini Begu from Romania in straight sets 62 62 whilst Burdette also scored a straight sets win over Sung Hee Han of Korea 75 63. Burdette may not find her next match as straightforward, as she will take on No.2 seed and World No.4 ranked Ksenia Milevskaya from Belarus, who defeated American Kimberly Couts 61 76(3) to claim her place in the last 16.

Last week's Eddie Herr chamion Urszula Radwanska was tested by American Kristy Frilling but after losing the first set the Pole found her rhythm and extended her unbeaten run, 57 62 61, to eight matches. She will now take on Anastasia Pivovarova, her semifinal opponent last week.

In contrast to the seed heavy girls' draw, the boys' draw has lost half its seeds by the round of 16, and most of those from the top half. Only the No.1, No.5 and No.14 seeds remain in that half, Roberto Maytin, seeded 12, the latest to fall. American qualifier Jordan Rux defeated the Venezuelan in straight sets 64 64 and will now face No.5 seed Pavel Chekhov from Russia. Nicolas Santos and Donald Young, the No.1 and 2 seeds respectively, continued their progress with straightforward wins. Santos defeated Gonzalo Escobar from Ecuador 63 60 whilst Young saw off France's Stephane Piro 64 62. Petru Alexandru Luncanu, the No.4 seed, was another to claim his place in the last 16 with little trouble, eliminating Russia's Evgeny Donskoy 61 60.
