| Girls top seeds progress |
No. 1 and No.2 seeds respectively, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) and Raluca Ioana Olaru (ROM) progressed through their second round matches without any problems yesterday. The formidable Pavlyuchenkova whose win-loss for 2006 is 27-1 continued her impressive run by disposing of local girl Alessandra Di Batte 63 61. Olaru took even less time to see off her opponent Kim-Alice Grajdek from Germany, allowing her only three games in her 61 62 victory.
No.6 seed Corinna Dentoni kept the home flag flying, handing out a double bagle to compatriot Giulia Gardini. Dentoni will now face No.10 seed Katerina Vankova (CZE) after Vankova squeezed past Chayenne Ewijk (NED) 46 67(4) 61. Brazil's Rozanne Vaisemberg maintained her impressive form, following up her 61 60 win in the first round with a 62 62 win over Japan's Yurina Koshino.
Kellen Damico (USA) and Nicolas Santos (BRA) join Luka Belic and Roman Jebavy as the only seeds left in the boys' singles draw. No.2 seed Santos saw off Jamie Hunt in straight sets 64 64. Damico did not enjoy quite as straightfoward a victory, losing the second set in the tiebreak, after sprinting through the first set 60 against Andrej (SVK). However, the American pulled himself together and wrapped up the match 62 in the third.
Jonathan Eysseric from France has been showing good form on the ITF Junior Circuit in 2006 and continued with a win overJapan's Fumiaki Kita 61 62. Eysseric will now take on giant slayer Dylan Sessagesimi, who put out No.1 seed Thiemo de Bakker in the first round.
In the bottom half of the draw, Portugal's Pedro Sousa progressed at the expense of No.10 seed Antonio Veic who suffered a sprained ankle in the third set of their match. Sousa will now face Kei Nishikori from Japan, who saw off Antonio Gonzalez (COL) in straight sets 64 75.
