| Orange Bowl - day 1 round-up |
Top seed Donald Yound successfully negotiated the opening round of the 2005 Orange Bowl with a victory in two sets over fellow American Dylan Arnould. Young, currently precariously balanced at the top of the ITF junior rankings made hard work of this first round encounter over the world number 79, finally winning 64 76(5).
Fourth seeded Argentine Leonardo Mayer safely made it into round two, beating Leo Rosenerg (USA) 64 60 and Spaniard Javier Garrapiz-Borderias was in a class of his own as he cruised past Martin Kamenik (CZE) 61 61. Japanese Sho Aida, seeded eight eventually struggled past Holden Seguso (USA) 26 62 63, while Kei Nishikori, also from Japan, made light work of Austrian Simon David.
Seeds who failed to make it past day one include Christian Vitulli (KEN), who was beaten in a three set thriller by Kevin Botti (FRA), and American Kellen Damico, who had to retire injured from his match with compatriot and fellow Junior Davis Cup teammate Wil Spencer.
Day two will see the girls' draw get underway, as well as all the remaining first round matches from the the boys' event.
