Qualifications for ITF Junior Finals completed on all continents but Europe
The final Asia/Oceania Qualifying event in the ITF Junior Team Competitions was staged in Melbourne last week with girls and boys under 14 teams competing for the four available spots in the World Junior Tennis Final in Prostejov, Czech Republic, on 8-13 August.

16 nations in the boys event and 14 nations in the girls event took part in Melbourne Park, home of the Australian Open.

Top seed Australia defeated second seed Chinese Taipei in the qualifying final of the boys event. Both teams qualify for the World Junior Tennis Final as well as the losing semi-finalists Japan and Korea.

The Chinese girls upset top seeds Japan and second seeds Australia on successive days to claim the top spot in the qualifying competition. The seedings proved accurate as the top four seeded girls teams, China, Australia, Japan and Korea, all qualified for the Final in Prostejov.

The 2005 qualification events are now completed on all continents except Europe, where the European Summer Cups are counting as qualifying events. The Finals of the Copa del Sol and the Europa Cup, to be held 1-3 July, for will determine the remaining 5 teams to qualify for Prostejov in the boys and girls under 14 events.

The Finals of the Borotra Cup and the Helvetie Cup, which will take place 31 July – 2 August, will determine the remaining 5 European teams to qualify for the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas and Junior Fed Cup Finals (under 16 events) in Barcelona, to be held 27 September - 2 October.
