Brazilians booming at the Banana Bowl
Day 4 proved to be a great day for the home fans at the Banana Bowl as two girls and two boys made made it through to the quarterfinals. In the girls' draw Teliana Pereira and Raxanne Vaisemberg overcame strong opposition to secure their places in the last eight, much to the delight of the Brazilian supporters.

Unseeded Teliana Pereira's victory was the most impressive of the day as she fought past No.10 seed Katerina Kraperova from the Czech Republic 26 62 61:

"It was a difficult match, but to win is great for my confidence because I've been training hard and working on my rhythm for the Banana Bowl". However, the Brazilian is not yet thinking about winning the title: "I'm just thinking about playing well." Pereira's next opponent will be Jessic a Sweeting from the Bahamas, who defeated USA's Andrea Remynse in a tough three setter 46 75 63.

Rozanne Vaisemberg, the No.4 seed, gained some revenge over her opponent Estefania Balda from Ecuador, who had previously beaten her in a third set tie-beak in Colombia. Vaisemberg started out well to race through the first set 61. Despite a slip in concentration in the second set the Brazilian held it together to take the match in straight sets 61 64. Vaisemberg's next opponent will be Canada's Sharon Fichman.

Also through to the quarters are No.1 seed Dominika Cibulka (SVK), Raluca Olaru (ROM) Alexandra Dulgheru (ROM) and Maria Alvarez (BOL).

The Brazilian boys also held up their side of the bargain by securing quarterfinal spots. Andre Miele defeated Mexico's Miguel Angel Reyes Varela 75 62 and Raony Carvalho took three sets to overcome Piero Luisi from Venezuela 63 06 61. No.2 seed Aljoscha Thron (GER) crashed out in straight sets 76(0) 62 to Roman Recarte (VEN), but No.1 seed Dusan Lojda had no such trouble, he has yet to drop a set, winning all three of his matches so far by the identical scoreline 62 75. Ryan Sweeting (BAH) made it a family celebration, joining his sister in quarters. Completing the line up are David Navarette (VEN), Leonardo Mayer (ARG) and Sebastian Gallego (COL).
