Players Party Is A Huge Success
With four out of five matches played and a welcome rest ahead on one of the next two days, it was time for the players to unwind from their exertions and enjoy themselves at the player party. The party, along with the welcome and farewell parties, is a feature of all the ITF Junior Team Competitions, and an important part of the event. Since TK Prostejov first hosted the event in 1999, they have always made the player party a memorable occasion.

The players were transported to the picturesque Plumlov Dam by the volunteer drivers, using the cars supplied to the event by Kia Motors, following an agreement between the club and Kia, which sees them extend their connection with tennis.

The football pitch and basketball court were constantly occupied, while archery and stilt-walking were amongst the other activities to be enjoyed.

As the sun disappeared from view, an impressive firework display began before it was time for the return journey to the two player hotels so that the players taking part in Friday’s placement ties could get a good night’s sleep in preparation for one big, final effort.

The remaining ties will be played on Saturday, with the members of the teams contesting the finals enjoying a rest day on Friday. Austria and Belarus will both bid for their first-ever World Junior Tennis Final in the girls’ final, while the British boys will take on the Czechs and, in all probability, a large, enthusiastic crowd, in their bid to record a second victory in this competition, which the Czech boys have never won.

It will also be a tense time for the captains and players involved in the play-offs to determine which teams finish 16th as their region will have one place less in the 2005 Final.

In today’s matches, Russia wrapped up 5th place in the girls’ event by defeating Australia, USA outgunned Mexico for 7th and Japan beat Peru for 9th place, with Shiho Akita emerging with her fifth victory out of five in singles.Indonesia won against Egypt for 11th place.

On the boys’ side France overcame Germany to finish 5th, and the USA ended up 7th after beating Croatia. Australia defeated Korea to take 9th place and South Africa are 11th with victory over Argentina.

Today's results and updated drawsheet can be seen in the attached pdfs.
