| Bohmova and Krajicek Czech in to Roland Garros history |
Czech Katerina Bohmova and Michaela Krajicek of Holland joined forces to win the girls' doubles title on Saturday, beating Russian pairing of Irina Kotkina and Yaroslava Shvedova 63 62.
The Spanish duo of Pablo Andujar and Marcel Granollers-Pujol secured the boys' doubles trophy with a 63 62 victory over the US/German team of Alex Kuznetsov and Mihail Zverev.
The bullring of Roland Garros' Court No.1 enjoyed a fiesta-like atmosphere as Spanish supporters with flags came to cheer on Andujar and Granollers-Pujol to their first Grand Slam title.
Bohmova and Krajicek also had plenty of reason to celebrate, particularly since it was their first Grand Slam title after two losing finals.
"We are very happy that finally we have won one," said Bohmova. "We had more experience this time around and we learned from the other finals. It made us play better this time. It's a big motivator when you've been through it before."
Krajicek also pointed out that the duo - who communicate in Czech on the court thanks to Krajicek's Czech family connections - are friends as well as team-mates, a relationship which made victory all the sweeter.
"It is really great because we see each other every day, we practice together, so it was nice that we could win something together."
"If one of us plays a bad shot the other one will still be cheering her up, no matter what," agreed Bohmova. "We are always doing our best to help each other. We have played so many times that we have a very good understanding between us. I know what shot she is going to play when she gets to the ball, and it's the same for her."
Both girls are also hoping that their doubles success will overspill into their singles form and give them confidence for the rest of the season. "Every win helps," said Bohmova, "and a Grand Slam even more so. Everyone wants to win a Grand Slam."
