Karatancheva Advances; Zverev Ousted
Bulgaria's Sesil Karatancheva continued her smooth progress in the girls' singles at the 45th Trofeo Bonfiglio but boys' top seed, Mihail Zverev, of Germany, was eliminated.

The much-improved Sergei Bubka, son of the Olympic pole-vaulter of the same name, defeated Zverev in a tough three-set tussle. The Ukrainian took the first set after a 24-point tiebreak, only to lose the second 5-7, but came back strongly in the third to wrap up a 75 57 61 victory. Bubka's improvement was put down to the fact that "he has managed to attain the same levels as the best players in training", according to his coach.Bubka advances to the quarterfinals where he will face Dutchman Igor Sijsling, who dismissed Chu-Huan Yi, of Chinese Taipei, 63 64. Bubka narrowly won their only previous meeting on the ITF Junior Circuit two years ago.

The other boys' quarterfinal determined today will see Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci take on Argentina's Juan Del Potro, one of the youngest players in the draw, at just 15. Del Potro ousted sixth seed, Karan Rastogi, of India, 64 61 while Bellucci beat USA's Michael Johnson 67 60 64. All four boys who have so far reached the quarterfinals, have done so for the first time in a Grade A event and one of them has a great opportunity to reach their first Grade A final as all the seeded players have now been eliminated from the top half of the draw.

Karatancheva easily disposed of Romanian opponent, Agnes Szatmari, 63 61 to reach the quarterfinals of the girls' event, where she will play Russian sixth seed, Irina Kotkina. Kotkina put out Marina Eravokic, the ninth seed from New Zealand, 76 75. Afterwards, Karatancheva acknowledged that after her performances in WTA events, there were now greater expectations placed on her but that she felt she was capable of meeting these. Adding that she entered every tournament with the aim of winning it.

ITF Junior Touring teammates Kateryna Bondarenko and Volha Havartsova will also meet tomorrow in a repeat of last week's Santa Croce quarterfinal which Bondarenko won comfortably. Ukrainian Bondarenko, seeded three, outplayed Sheng-Nan Sun, of China, seeded 13, 64 62 and Belarusian Havartsova enjoyed a 64 76 win over No.11 seed, Aleksandra Wozniak,of Canada, 64 76. Both girls have already surpassed last year's performances when they were both eliminated in the last sixteen.

The remaining quarterfinalists will be determined tomorrow.
