| Chvojkova and Lacko Suffer Upsets |
Michaella Krajicek had a comfortable win over Lisa Sabino, of Italy, 63 64 in the second round of the girls' singles but fourth seed Veronika Chvojkova went out. The Czech player started well but Russian Evgenya Rodina stormed back to win 36 63 62 and join her teammate, Regina Kulikova in the last sixteen. Kulikova upset No.7 seed, Agnes Szavay, of Hungary, 64 76.
Italy's sole survivor in the girls' singles gave the crowd something to cheer about as she disposed of Wen-Hsin Hsu, of Chinee Taipei, seeded tenth, 63 63. She will now face 13-year-old Sharon Fichman, of Canada, who followed up her surprise win over eighth seed, Julia Cohen, with a 64 62 victory of Slovak Jana Juricova.
Only one of the eight seeds in the bottom half of the girls' draw failed to take her appointed place in the last sixteen. Romanian Agnes Szatmari upset No.16 seed, Pichittra Thongdach, of Thailand, 62 64 and will now play second seeded Bulgarian, Sesil Karatancheva, who overpowered Italian wildcard Corinna Dentoni 61 63. There were also comfortable victories for Katerina Bondarenko, of the Ukraine and Volha Havartsova, of Belarus, seeded three and five respectively.
Six of the seven remaining seeds in the bottom half of the boys' draw made it through. Second seed Sebastian Rieschick, of Germany won a topsy-turvy match with South Africa's Kevin Anderson, 64 16 62 and third seed Brendan Evans, of USA, crushed Italy's Andrea Arnaboldi 63 62. Arnaboldi's teammate, Fabio Fognini fared better, defeating Croatia's Franko Skugor 62 61, but tenth seed, Scott Oudsema, of USA, went out to fellow American, Greg Ouelette, 64 57 61.
By contrast, three of the seeds disappeared from the top half of the boys' draw. The biggest surprise was the loss by Slovak Lucas Lacko, the fourth seed, who went down 64 64 to Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci, while Viktor Troicki (SCG) , seeded fifteen, and Coen Van Keulen (NED), seeded 12, also failed to progress. Only two seeds remain in the top half of the draw, top seed, Mihail Zverev, of Germany, was in dominant form against Italy's Filippo Figliomeni, dropping just one game for the second day running, . He was joined by sixth-seeded Indian Karan Rastogi.
