Lacko Ousted In Round Two
Second seed Lukas Lacko was beaten by qualifier Pedro Campos in the second round of the boys’ singles at the 34th Banana Bowl in Sao Paolo. The Slovak, who had won the Grade 1 Asuncion Bowl in Paraguay last week lost 64 64 to the Brazilian, currently world ranked 418 on a day when five Brazilians reached the last sixteen of the boys' singles.

The big local hope, Bruno Rosa, seeded six, dismissed fellow-Brazilian, Raony Carvalho 61 64 and joined countrymen Thomas Belucci, Renan Delsin, Andre Miele and Campos in the third round. ' I sensed he was a little nervous, wanting to finish the ponts quickly and made many errors. After a tough first match, I feel good physically to continue winning,' said Rosa afterwards.

Top seeded Argentine Eduardo Schwank, third seed Rafael Arevalo, of El Salvador, and fourth seeded Spaniard Pablo Andujar-Alba also advanced into the last sixteen with comfortable straight sets victories, along with Juan-Pablo Amado, of Argentina, seeded five.

Top seed in the girls’ singles, Alisa Kleybanova showed much improved form in trouncing fellow-Russian, Angelina Gabueva, 60 60 and then saw all the remaining seeds in her half eliminated. The principal casualties were Vojislava Lukic, of Serbia and Montenegro, who went out to France’s Marine Giraud 62 36 64, and Maraike Biglmaier, of Germany, seeded seven and eight respectively. The latter lost to Brazil’s Teliana Pereira 26 64 64, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Second and third seeds Marina Erakovic, of New Zealand, and Hungarian, Agnes Szavay both also advanced. Erakovic now faces American Krysty Marcio, who reached the final here last year, in what promises to be a highlight of the third round. Fifth seed Aleksandra Wozniak, of Canada became only the fifth of the 16 original seeds to reach round three when she eliminated USA's Amanda Avedissian 63 62.

News from today's third round matches will be available later today.
