Second seed Scott Oudsema was eliminated from the boys’ singles by Spaniard Guillermo Alcaide-Justel. The Spaniard’s exceptional service proved the defining factor in the match, he ran away with the first set 61, and although Oudsema fought back in the second set, the damage was already done and Alcaide-Justel took the match 61 76(5). Alcaide-Justel’s opponent in the semifinal will be Phillip Simmonds, the only American left in the draw. Simmonds defeated fellow American Robert Cameron 63 75. Coen Van Keulen came out on top of the battle with New Zealand’s William Ward after a hard fought three sets. Ward took the first set 62 and Van Kuelen came back in the second 63. At 4-4 in the third set Van Kuelen broke Ward’s serve but needed five match points to actually close out the match 64. The final semifinalist is Jeremy Chardy from France who eliminated USA’s Vahid Mirzadeh in another three set epic encounter 61 46 63. All four matches in the girls’ draw also went to three sets, providing a great spectacle for the watching public. No.1 seed Julia Cohen (USA) who has yet to drop a set in the tournament battled back after dropping the first set against Mirna Marinovic (CRO) 57. The top seed quickly came back to claim the match 57 62 62, Cohen will now face Marina Erakovic (NZL) who defeated Canada’s Aleksandra Wozniak. The Canadian was unable to come back after losing the second set tie break and eventually succumbed 36 76(4) 62. In the closest match of the girls draw, Nicole Thijssen (NED), the surprise of the tournament, defeated Andrea Petrovic (GER) 67(5) 64 64 and her rival in the semifinal will be another German Maraike Biglmaier who defeated India’s Tara Iyer in another close match 26 62 76(1).
