| Day Two at the Casablanca Cup |
In the second round of the boys singles at the Grade A Casablanca Cup French boys Jeremy Chardy caused the first surprise of the day by eliminating No.3 seed Rafael Arevalo (ESA). The El Salvadorian put up a fight in the first set, losing 64 but quickly surrendered the second 62. The No.1 seed Brendan Evans who possesses an explosive serve did not find things easy against Argentinean wild card Juan M. Del Potro. Evans eventually prevailed 76 64 but he will have to improve if he is to live up to his top seeding and get pass his next match against Coen Van Keulen who defeated Antal Van Der Dium (NED) 63 62. New Zealands William Ward saw off Argentina’s Gerardo Azcurra 75 62. Azcurra gave everything he had in the first set but left himself with nothing for the second set. Ward joins Daniel Muller (GER), Robin Haase (NED), and Vahid Mirzadeh (USA) and Donald Young (USA) in the next round.
In the girls’ draw all of the seeds progessed without problem with the exception of Romanian Agnes Szatmari, No.6 seed, who lost to Elizabeth Kobak 63 63. Qualifier Kobak will face Crotian Mirna Marinovic who defeated Bibiane Schoofs (NED) in a great battle 61 67(3) 75. No.1 seed Julia Cohen (USA) easily eliminated the only Mexican left in the draw Ana Laura Ochoa magan 60 61. Cohen will now face Croatian Maren Kassens who eliminated Lara Fakhoury (GBR). Alexanda Wozniak (CAN), seeded 4, Corina Perkovic (GER), Marina Erakovic (NZL) seeded 7 and and Marrit Boonstra all move through to the next round.
