Newly-crowned French Open Junior champion, Anna-Lena Groenefeld, of Germany, heads a strong field for the 2003 Wimbledon Junior Championships. Italian Open Junior champion, Michaela Krajicek, from the Netherlands, is likely to provide the main opposition. A further fourteen girls from the current top twenty have also entered, including Banana Bowl winner Alisa Kleybanova (RUS)and Osaka Mayor’s Cup champion Ryoko Fuda (JPN). Carly Gullickson (USA) returns from the professional circuit to join the battle for the coveted title.

The boys’ event has the top six ranked juniors entered : Top-ranked Marcos Baghdatis, of Cyprus,the Australian Open Junior champion will face the likes of American Brian Baker, French Open runner-up; Hungary’s Gyorgy Balazs, Osaka Mayor’s Cup champion; 2003 claycourt sensation, Daniel Gimeno-Traver, of Spain; Mathieu Montcourt, of France, who reached the last eight last year and Romanian Florin Mergea who lost to Baghdatis in the Melbourne final. The quality field also contains Jo-Wilfred Tsonga (FRA), Chris Kwon (USA), Dudi Sela (ISR) and David Brewer (GBR). Tomas Berdych (CZE) returns from a successful spell on the professional circuit and will surely be a factor too in a field which contains 16 of the current top twenty.
