World Junior Tennis Finals 2003 - Preview

Tuesday 05 August 2003

The 2003 World Junior Tennis Finals, the ITF Team Championships for boys and girls of 14 and Under, commences on Monday 11 August and is hosted by TK Prostejov, Czech Republic. 26 countries will compete for the Championship titles, including the boys from the Philippines and the girls from Morocco, Bolivia and Romania who all compete for the first time since the competition was launched in 1991.

After eight years in Japan, the event has now been held in the Czech Republic for the past five years. All spectators will witness the highest level of competition for this age group and will see players who will no doubt go on to forge great tennis careers.

The event has been dominated by the Europeans over the years though 2002 saw the boys team from the USA take the title for the first time. Unfortunately, the girls from the Netherlands are not returning to defend their title. The Czech Republic girls' team have finished in the top 7 whenever they have taken part, so they will be looking not to spoil this excellent record

Reports and results from the 2003 event will be posted daily on the ITF Juniors website and a full line-up of the teams can be found on the team nominations page of the News section.
