Brewer and Kleybanova take Banana Bowl crown
David Brewer and Alisa Kleybanova secured the Banana Bowl crown in straight sets today in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

It is not often that a British player wins a major clay court title, but Brewer today proved his love of the red stuff by overcoming Portugal’s Frederico Gil 75 75 to take his second career title. Brewer, seeded 5, did not drop a set all week which helped considerably in the final against a weary Gil, who was pushed to three sets in his last two matches. The Grade A win will lift Brewer’s ranking into the top 10 for the first time when Monday’s rankings are released.

Kleybanova went into today’s final as the lower ranked player but the Russian proved that her decisive win over the on-form Yugoslav Vojislava Lukic in yesterday’s semifinal was not a one off. No. 5 seed, Kyrsty Marcio never really got into the match today and she managed just two games before the 13 year-old Russian secured her first Grade A title, the final score 60 62.

Top seeds in the boys’ doubles made light work of their final match against the no. 2 seeds. Frederico Gil and Chris Kwon (USA) overcame USA’s Alex Kuznetsov and Vahid Mirzadeh 63 64. The girls’ doubles final was not so straight forward, unseeded Megan Moulton-Levy (USA) and Katarina Zoricic (CAN) secured the first set against the no. 2 seeds, Larissa Carvalho (BRA) and Soledad Esperon (ARG), but the clay court specialists fought back to take the title 16 76(3) 62.
