Day 4 sees the demise of Kwon
The big news on Day 4 at the Banana Bowl was the defeat of the boys' top seed Chris Kwon (USA). Kwon had to play two singles matches in one day and had to fight out a three sets victory in the first against Denis Zivkovic (USA) 26 64 75. In the second Kwon appeared unable to get into the match against Spain's Daniel Gimeno and was quickly brushed aside 62 63.

Kwon wasn't the only seed to lose out on a quarterfinal spot, No.14 seed Leandro Migani (ARG) became the latest victim of Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini, going down in three 06 75 61.

Three seeds did safely secure their quarterfinal places, one of whom was Jorge Aguilar (CHI) who defeated Briton's Guy Thomas 62 76(6). Another Brit faired better, David Brewer, seeded 5, progressed with a 75 63 victory over Nestor Briceno (USA). The best news for the home supporters came with the victory of Bruno Rosa over No.8 seed Robert Cameron in straight sets 62 61. Completing the quarterfinal line up are two Argentines Juan Pablo Amado and Martin Alund, and Portugal's Federico Gil.

The latest of the girls' seeds to suffer defeat was No.4 seed Aleksandra Wozniak (CAN). The Canadian couldn't put up much of a fight against Italy's Federica Quercia and went down in straight sets 62 62. Agnes Szavay (HUN) continued her giant killing act and secured herself the only other quarterfinal place for a non-seeded player. Having already seen off the No.1 seed Beier Ko in the first round, Szavay's latest victim was Megan Moulton-Levy (USA) who she quickly dispatched 61 62.

Good news for Brazil came in the shape of Larissa Carvalho (BRA) who progressed to the last eight with a 63 62 win over Agnes Szatmari (ROM), she will now face slayer of the seeds Szavay.

Katerina Zoricic (CAN) and Krysty Marcio (USA) claimed two of the other last eight places with identical scoreline wins 62 62 over their respective opponents Laura Thorpe (FRA) and Barbara Costa (BRA).

Voijislava Lukic (YUG) and Julia Cohen (USA) both continued as expected to the quarters and they are joined by Alisa Kleybanova (RUS) who took the final spot with victory over Aliona Tsutskova (UKR) 62 61.
