Osaka Mayor's Cup, World Super Junior Championships
The Osaka Mayor's Cup, World Super Junior Championships drew to a close today and saw two new Group A Champions.

In the boys singles final Marcos Baghdatis continued the good form that saw him account for no. 1 seed Gilles Muller and no.3 seed Yeu-Tzuoo Wang, by beating world no. 2 Janko Tipsarevic in two tight sets, 75 75. The 16 year old from Limassol, Cyprus denied Tipsarevic the chance of regaining the no. 1 spot in the rankings. Tipsarevic, although now level on points with Muller, will remain at no. 2 in tomorrow's ranking list because Muller has won more points at Group A level.

Both Eva Birnerova and Virag Nemeth had reached the finals of a Group A tournament already this year, the Coffee Bowl and Italian Open respectively, but both failed to capture the titles. The final was closely contested with only a few points difference between the players. Birnerova edged past Nemeth to take the first set 75 only to see her lead slip away when Nemeth levelled the match by taking to second set 63. Birnerova had the no.1 ranking position in her sights and was not going to give up with out a fight and she managed to hold on to take the third set 63. Birnerova commented after the match "It was a tough game because the opponent's condition was very good. I couldn't sleep very well last night as I wanted to be no. 1 player". Birnerova will move up to no. 1 in tomorrow's rankings for the first time. Nemeth moves on from Japan to Santiago, Chile, to lead the Hungarian team in the NEC World Youth Cup Final.
