The Road to Wimbledon
Day 5 will be surely be a day that the Casanova house will want to forget. With sisters Daniela and Myriam in the semi-finals of the girls singles they must have been hoping for at least one representative in the final.

At No.136 in the rankings, expectations for younger sister, Daniela, were not so high as she was playing the No.4 seed Claudine Schaul. Despite putting up a good fight Daniela succumbed to Schaul’s greater experience and accurate ground strokes 64 64.

Disappointment at not reaching the final must be much higher for Myriam who was involved in quite a battle with the No.5 seed Gisela Dulko. Myriam took the first set 7-5, but seemed to relax too much and let Dulko take the lead in the second 5-3. After regaining her concentration Myriam came back strongly to win three games in a row and gain herself a match point. However Dulko saved the point and went on to win the tie-break 7-4, thus levelling the match at one set all.

The loss of the match point seemed to sap Myriam’s confidence and with Dulko using some of the volleying skills that took her to No.1 in the doubles ranking Dulko ran away with the third set to win the match 57 76(4) 62.

Switzerland may have been disappointed with neither of their girls making it through to the final but in the boys draw they are guaranteed a champion after Stefane Bohli and Roman Valent both came through their respective semis. Bohli again showed the impressive form that saw him sweep aside No.1 seed Janko Tipsarevic, this time Iordan Kanev was on the receiving end with Bohli winning in straight sets 63 63.

Roman Valent had a tougher match against Robin Soderling, the No.7 seed from Sweden but eventually came through in three 63 36 63.

Day 5 was also the day of the Boys and Girls doubles finals.

Petra Cetkovska, the Australian and French Open doubles champion this year is looking to continue her domination and stay on course for the Grand Slam with a win in the doubles at Wimbledon. She had the perfect preparation when, along with partner Eva Birnerova, she won the final against Chia-Jung Chuang and Su-Wei Hseih 64 46 64.

The Boys Doubles title went to Bart De Gier (NED) and Tomas Berdych (CZE) who beat the Aussie pairing of Todd Reid and Ryan Henry 63 63.
