Osaka Mayor's Cup World Super Junior Championships
Apart from the rain that came on and off all day, there were no upsets as the first round singles matches were completed at the Osaka Mayor’s Cup.

In front of 1000 spectators No.1 seed Gilles Muller (LUX) joined the other top seeds in the second round with a comfortable win over Jun Watanabe (JPN) 62 64. Lamine Ouahab (ALG), the No.4 seed, also showed that he is good form with a win over Yuichi Uda (JPN) 61 61. Other seeds in the boys’ singles to move through successfully today were No.11 seed Emile Petit (FRA) and No.14 seed Lars Poerschke (GER).

In the girls singles No.4 seed Virag Nemeth (HUN) put on an impressive display against Minori Takemoto (JPN), winning 61 62. No.10 seed Da Jung Hong (KOR) and No.14 seed Hanna Nooni (SWE) both completed straight sets wins over their opponents.

The first round of the doubles was almost completed, except for one match in the girls’ doubles which had to be suspended in the third set due to the rain.

Tournament director, Masahiro Sato, was extremely impressed by the standard of play he had witnessed in the first two days of the competition, he said, “It is amazing to see how fast these young international players get used to the climate, surface, and the whole new environment. They do not look like they have just arrived, maybe that is what is takes to be a top player in the world of tennis …constant travel, new climates, food, language, and so on.”
