The 2013 ITF Junior team competitions got underway on Monday 11 March with the North/Central America & Caribbean World Junior Tennis Pre-Qualifying event in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The opening ceremony kicked off proceedings on Monday, with the Minister of Sport for Dominican Republic launching the event before stepping aside to let the players take the courts. In the boys’ event Bahamas, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador and host nation Dominican Republic all enjoyed convincing wins over their respective opponents. The hosts, in particular, looked in imperious form, romping to a 3-0 victory for the loss of just four games. Third seeds Aruba will be next to challenge the host nation.

In the girls’ event it was plain sailing for Costa Rica and Bahamas, who posted straightforward wins over Aruba and Bermuda, respectively. Aruba now face second seeds Puerto Rico, with the girls requiring a win to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Qualifying for the 2013 Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup will start on Monday 18 March, with the North/Central America & Caribbean Pre-Qualifying event in La Libertad, El Salvador and the Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying event in Kuching, Malaysia.
