Sri Lanka and Kyrgzstan made comprehensive starts to their Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas campaigns at the Under 16 Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying event in Kuching, Malaysia.

Both nations cruised through their opening ties, winning three matches without so much as dropping a set, to achieve dream starts to their qualifying campaigns.

For Sri Lanka, Kavindya De Silva and Nethmie Waduge combined in the doubles to see off Iran after winning each of their singles matches, while Eliza Askarova and Arina Beliaeva secured singles wins for Kyrgzstan to put their opening tie beyond reach of Jordan before Beliaeva and Ansari Abildaeva teamed to win the doubles.

Kazakhstan followed the lead of its senior teams, who have both enjoyed winning starts in Davis Cup and Fed Cup competition in 2013, by becoming the third and final team to record a win on the opening day of play with victory against Pakistan.

Gozal Ainitdinova gave them a fine start after powering past Rida Khalid 60 61, but she had to work a little harder to seal the tie, combining with Darya Shevchenko to win the deciding doubles rubber 75 63 after Iman Qureshi had levelled proceedings with a battling 64 36 64 triumph against Assel Jumamukhambetova.

Tuesday’s ties will see Kazakhstan take on Iran, who managed just nine games in its opening encounter, Pakistan take on Kyrgzstan and Jordan against top-of-the-table Sri Lanka.

The six teams are bidding for one of two spots that will carry them through to the final qualifying event in Gimcheon, Korea, on the 22-27 April. From there, 16 teams will battle it out for one of three spots up for grabs for Asia/Oceania teams into the Junior Fed Cup finals in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, from 24-29 September.
