Junior Team Competition action continues this week with the Asia/Oceania pre-qualifying event for the World Junior Tennis Competition in Kuching, Malaysia.
Nine boys’ teams and four girls’ team will be battling it out for the chance to play in the final qualifying event, also to be held in Kuching, Malaysia, from 8 – 20 April.
Syria and Pakistan both produced convincing wins on day one of the World Junior Tennis boys' event, with 3-0 wins over their respective opponents, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Syria breezed past Kyrgzstan without the loss of a set. Saudi Arabia had a closely fought tie against Yemen, with the Saudi Arabian duo of Bader Turky A Alosus and Faisal Abdulaziz Alrebdi prevailing in straight sets in the deciding doubles to take the win 2-1.
In the girls’ event Sri Lanka and Vietnam both enjoyed 3-0 victories over Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan respectively, with Sri Lanka dropping just four games on the way to their win.
Two teams from each the boys' and girls' event will proceed to the Final Qualifying event in Malaysia. The Final Qualifying event will see 16 teams in each boys' and girls' competition fight it out for the four places available at the World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic, from 5-10 August.
