Junior Team Competition Regional Qualifying continues

Regional qualifying for the junior team competitions continued last week with the Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying for World Junior Tennis boys' event taking place in Kuching, Malaysia and the South America Junior Davis and Fed Cup qualifyingcompetition taking place in Valencia, Venezuela.

In Venezuela there were ten boys' teams and ten girls' teams competing for the three places available at the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals and two places available for the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals. Brazil and Paraguay took the top two spots in the Junior Fed Cup event, securing their places at the Finals in Barcelona, Spain in September.  In the boys' event Argentina and Brazil took the top two spots, but rain meant that their tie was not played. Peru narrowly defeated Chile in the deciding doubles to secure third place at the event and a place in the Finals.

Sixteen teams were competing in Malaysia for the four places at  the World Junior Tennis Finals. Korea, Republic was first to secure their place with a 2-0 win over Japan in the first place play-off. Chinese Taipei faced off against Australia for third place, clinching victory in the deciding doubles. All four teams will go on to contest the Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic in August.

Junior team competition action continues this week in Chile and Malaysia.  Malaysia will now host the Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event for the World Junior Tennis girls' event, while Santiago, Chile will play host to the South America Qualifying for the World Junior Tennis event.
