The quarterfinal line-ups were decided at the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event in Gimcheon, Korea on Thursday, with seven of the eight seeds going through to the play-off stages.
With semifinalists guaranteed a place at the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on 24-29 September, the action is heating up as nations bid for one more win to guarantee their presence in the prestigious competition.
The top three seeds, Korea, Japan and Australia all enjoyed 100% winning records in the group stages, each dropping just one set en route to the quarterfinals. Having remained undefeated thus far, the three nations qualify top of their respective groups.
Top seeds Korea faces Hong Korea in tomorrow’s quarterfinal, while Japan takes on sixth seeds Chinese Taipei and Australia comes up against fifth seeds New Zealand. The remaining quarterfinal sees fourth seeds India take on the only unseeded nation in the play-offs, China.
Meanwhile, the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final Qualifying event is now at the semifinal stages with Australia taking on New Zealand in the top half of the draw.
Australia defeated Hong Kong 3-0 on Wednesday with Naiktha Bains fighting back from a set down to secure the tie for the top seeds.
There are only three spots available for Asia/Oceania nations at the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals, so a win tomorrow would guarantee them one of the sought-after places. The two losing nations in Friday's semifinal will go head-to-head in a battle for the third and final place.
