Croatia’s Borna Coric enjoyed a fruitful week at the 21st Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup in Malaysia, winning both the boys’ singles and doubles titles.
The 16-year-old from Zagreb defeated Korea Republic’s Kang Ku Keon 63 57 63 to win his first singles title of the year and the first Grade 1 singles title of his career.
Coric also teamed up with Great Britain’s Luke Bambridge in the doubles with the pair defeating Harry Bourchier (AUS) and Cameron Norrie (NZL) in the final.
As a result, Coric rose to No. 4 in the ITF Junior Rankings. He is enjoying a solid start to 2013, with a semifinal finish in the boys’ event at the Australian Open.
In the girls’ event, Turkey’s Ipek Soylu won her first Grade 1 singles title with victory over Great Britain’s Katie Boulter 67(8) 62 61.
And in the doubles it was the all-Aussie pairing of Naiktha Bains and Olivia Tjandramulia who overcame the Japanese duo of Mami Adachi and Hikari Yamamoto.
This week, Malaysia plays host to the Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying event for Junior Fed Cup.
