Australia rounds off dominant week

Australia capped a fine week at the World Junior Tennis Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event in Kuching, Malaysia after fighting past Japan in the final to end the week with a 100% winning record.

Australia's Seone Mendez got the top seeds off to a winning start, fighting back from a set down to draw first blood against Japan's Haruka Arakawa 16 61 62. Destanee Aiava then continued her impressive run in Kuching with a 63 62 win over Saya Ito to seal victory and round off a dominant week for Australia. The top seeds cruised through all its ties to take the top spot at the Final Qualifying event for the loss of just two sets during the week.

They will head to the World Junior tennis Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic on 5-10 August where they will be joined by second placed Japan, third placed India and fourth placed Thailand.

India secured third place ahead of Thailand after the first two singles rubbers, with both Pranjala Yadlapalli and Mihika Yadav sealing victory in straight sets against their respective opponents, Priyachanol Sukkanha and Yinglak Jittakoat.
