Shanghai Tennis Association, China launches the ITN
The Shanghai Tennis Association held the first International Tennis Number training course for coaches in China at the Shanghai Bus Tennis Club. Brenden Sharp, who is the ITN coordinator for the International Tennis Federation conducted the training session with 20 coaches who came from Shanghai University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Songjiang Campus, Yuanshen Tennis club, Luwan District Tennis association, Shanghai Eastern Sports Co.Ltd Tennis Club and Bus Tennis Club.

During the 3 hours’ training session, Mr. Sharp did a presentation on the introduction, background and overall objectives of the ITN system. At the end of the session 4 Chinese tennis coaches received their ITN assessor qualification from the Shanghai Tennis Association. The recognized ITN Assessors came from Shanghai University, Songjiang Campus, Shanghai Eastern Sports Co. Ltd Tennis Association respectively.

The Shanghai Tennis Association plan to conduct more ITN training sessions for tennis coaches over the next few months with the goal of establishing a network of qualified ITN Assessors who can conduct ITN On Court Assessments in tennis clubs throughout Shanghai.

“Our goal is to use the ITN to help get more people playing tennis in Shanghai and also to help all players find more people of similar standard to play with. The ITN On Court Assessment is a fun and challenging activity that we encourage all tennis players to participate in” said Mr. Qian Meisheng - Secretary of Shanghai Tennis Association.

The ITN system is currently used in 90 countries around the world and is on target to become the global standard of rating the skill level of tennis players worldwide.
