Next tie 13-15 September
Slovak Republic will play Sweden at home in a bid to avoid a Europe/Africa Zone Group I relegation play-off with Denmark in October. The two nations have shared the honours in their two previous meetings in 1998 and 1999, with both clashes narrow affairs.
Last tie 1-3 Feb 2013
Slovak Republic travelled to Kremenchug to play Ukraine in the 1st round. Lukas Lacko won his opening singles rubber against Sergiy Stakhovsky and the Slovaks held a 2-1 lead after winning the doubles rubber but back-to-back victories for the hosts on the final day meant Ukraine emerged 3-2 winners.
