Davis Cup Idols: Patrick Rafter

Patrick Rafter looks back on his Davis Cup by BNP Paribas career playing for Australia in the latest interview of the ITF’s Davis Cup Idols video series, which features former stars of the game talking about their experiences and memories of the competition.

Rafter, a two-time US Open champion, competed in 18 Davis Cup ties and compiled a 21-11 win-loss record. He was a member of the Australian teams that reached the Finals in 2000 and 2001, although he never managed to get his hands on the trophy. He is now the Australian team captain.

"When you're playing for your country, there's no bigger honour," said Rafter. "Just being on the court and playing for your teammates, winning, giving them high-fives at the end, celebrating together, which you don't do when you play singles, you go into the locker room and give yourself a pat on the back. This way there are team hugs. We had some really special moments together."
