Davis Cup Idols

Gustavo Kuerten looks back on his Davis Cup career for Brazil.

This is the latest interview in the ITF’s Davis Cup Idols video series, which features the game’s all-time greats talking about their experiences and memories of the competition.

Kuerten made his Davis Cup debut as a player in 1996 and was a key member of the Brazilian team until his retirement in 2008. He finished with an impressive 34-18 win-loss record from 23 ties. The Florianopolis-born player led Brazil to the semifinals in 2000 and was part of the last team that defeated Spain on Spanish soil in 1999.

“Davis Cup had always a huge meaning for me,” said Gustavo. “Being there representing my country was a great feeling and I was very lucky to have the opportunity to play in this competition.”
